The beat way too keep your PS3 cool is to completely strip it down to a skeleton, and then drill holes in the bottom of it, just under the fan. That's what i done to mine.it doesn't even get warm now, it's what Sony should of done. its no t that hard to do and it will make your ps last for years and years, Ive had mine now over 3 years now and not a problem.

You shouldn't do the fan test its only to get games out when u "YLOD" i called up sony they even said not to do it "UNLESS" ur game gets stuck...

This dosent clean the system it's only a fan check to see it the fan works... Do not I repeat do not do this because if you do this I think it is over 4 times you ps3 will become ylod Which meant it is a phase of overheating and then the system is trash

So this is a standard feature of the PS3? I accidentally did this the other day when moving my console around my room. It freaked me out how loud and how hard the air was blowing out. I can see the usefulness in having such a feature. Nice one Sony!
