Retired Michigan newlyweds, Eldon Skaggs and Sue Nichols, witnessed the fatal whale attack yesterday that killed veteran trainer Dawn Brancheau.

As Sea World says, dining with Shamu is unforgettable.

@darinbuckisbetter the life expectancy studies take into account miscarriages & still births within the park.137 wild whales were captured from the year 1961 to today,13 are alive now; keep in mind the captures take younger healthier whales.If the youngest whale happens to be one it would be 50 today, since the average life expectancy in the wild is for males 30-60 & females 46-90 more of the orcas should be alive today. This is to do captivity, I have many resouces, try & prove me wrong.

OH don't let him go back in the ocean!! He won't make it! OMGOSH!! Not even in a "sea pen?" It's ok that he drowned a 19 yr old, (sorry for the mental case who got into the water and died,) but savaged, and ripped apart Dawn!! play or not, it was horrific!! But don't "hurt" the whale! That's the NEW way of this world! Satan is "in charge!" People's lives don't seem to be worth much do they.

@ryanmatthew90 boy you dont know much do you. The oldest whales in captivity are 35-45 years old. Orcas in the Wild can like up to 80 years old. And the reason average life span is shorter in captivity is because no one has given them a chance to see how long they can live for.

But do some research, you will find that thelife expectancy was seven years a LONG time ago. Orcas that are twenty in captivity are not strange. There are two Orcas in captivity over the age of thirty. In the wild females can live to be eighty(although it's rare) and males to be sixty. More commonly is females live to be sixty, males thirty
