Whitechapel Road was closed yesterday following the death of a 26 year old female cyclist who was hit by an HGV (http://crapwalthamforest.blogspot.com/2009/09/woman-cyclist-killed-in-london-today-by.html).

This morning at about 11:15 near the same piece of road that was closed, I saw this type of driving: not just 1 but 5 motorists running the red light, including the commercial vehicle owned by EPS: Environmental Property Services (www.epsplc.com)

  • Are they out of sync? I never trust the lights automatically or other people!

  • No, even allowing for the odd one popping through on amber this was blatant light jumping. It was only when I slowed the video down and looked at it again that I realised there were 5 offenders captured in this clip.

  • If the light ahead is going to amber, then the light for the junction to the right must certainly be red - in my experience about a second before the light ahead goes to amber.

So I'd guess the light for traffic from the right went to red at about 0:04. That means the first few cars probably accelerated to squeak through on amber (of course amber should mean stop).

But the van and the car behind are definite red light jumpers, by some considerable margin.
