This was a great album not only because of it success in sales but also because the lead single from the album 'Fall Down (Spirit of Love) was a major crossover hit and Tramaine was invited to nightclubs where she minister without compromise' ... Many souls were saved in those clubs ...

The album is titled 'The Search Is Over' made in 1986 ... the LP and CD are occassionally available for sale on CD ... Highly Recommended! (I own both the LP and CD)

I've been listening to "How I Got Over" lately because I didn't know the song and It seemed pretty popular. So I listened to Mahalia Jackson's version, Aretha Franklin's, then Clara Ward's version. Still seemed unfamiliar to me, but I figured I'd get to know it. Then I ran across this version and I'm goin', "What? I know this song! That's a hit! It was all over the radio!" It's pretty unrecognizable from the earlier versions, however, this is what is called a "jam," and always will be.

True. The Hawkins have always been more appreciated by the secular industry than by the Gospel industry. No one other than Clara Ward and Ms. Hawkins were invited to sing gospel music in night clubs AND ACCEPTED the invitation. Artists like Sylvester loved the Hawkins and actually worked with Walter at one point. I wish the music industry was still like this, an artistic endeavor with loftier goals than having a hit record.

Wow I used to hear this alot on WLVG 740AM Cambridge MA David Adams RIP "my my my lord". My grandmother used to play this back in the 80's.

This was the cut and still is!!!!! She sang this song. And, I just love her vocal range.

This was a difficult time for Tramaine because the saints felt that she had lost her anointing and her salvation by making this album and performing the Gospel in nightclubs ... But, through her pain during this time, Tramaine continued to carry the Message of Jesus Christ any and everywhere she was invited without compromising ... Today, it's no big deal for gospel artists to perform and befriend secular artists ... Thank God for Tramaine ... A trailblazer and a light in dark places ...
