Marlo: "My name is my name."
Spiros Vondas: "My name is not my name."
Perfectly summarizes the two groups. Marlo is all about street cred, whereas Vondas and the Greek are all about profit.

Of course it would sound familiar. You are not going to get any imagination, originality or creativity from these stupid and boring rap motherfuckers of today. So sure they would steal from masterpieces like The Wire.

it's also about the cycle of violence on those streets. It's like when the Colvin talks to Wee Bey and they talk about how they'll go to their graves remembering the history of West Baltimore. That's what Marlo grew up in, that's what he views as important and what he wants to leave as his legacy

An excerpt from the Wikipedia article under this character : A repeated theme in Marlo's characterization is his demand for unconditional respect, which trumps all other concerns. He frequently orders the deaths of those who disrespect him or undermine his name on the streets, however unwittingly.
