A term to describe the gap that people perceive between their day-to-day lives and the decisions and legal documents of EU institutions, which are often complicated and sometimes regarded as irrelevant. The EU is trying to overcome this 'democratic deficit' by drafting simpler laws, producing better public information and giving citizens a greater say in European policies.

  • @samerbolbol Please just cite the National Adult Literacy Agency in Ireland as it produced by them as part of an EU project.

  • So according to this term, the only reason that this so-called "democratic deficit" exists in Europe is because of complicated laws that the European citizens cannot understand...
