I've been an academic librarian for 11 years. While there's some truth in this of course it's grossly exaggerated. I've never been unemployed in the field, and while the job market is certainly dismal at the moment that's true in most fields. You don't get rich but I knew that going in and I certainly make more than I did as a waiter and have better working conditions. ALL jobs have BS you have to put up with. If you're interested in being a librarian don't let this scare you away.

I worked as a graduate assistant in an academic library! It was actually a very ideal job. And I was exactly like the girl being interviewed. Except I'm male. And not animated.
