In 1827, Joseph Smith, Jr. was only 21 years old, when he received a prophetic calling to translate ancient scriptures that would soon be published as The Book of Mormon.
The film follows Joseph's early adult years and portrays the events that lead up to the publishing of The Book of Mormon and the founding of a new worldwide church. The film also details Joseph's personal life and his desire to find forgiveness, acceptance and salvation from God.
The Deseret News and Mormon Times called the movie "breathtakingly beautiful and historically meaningful" and "a masterpiece, both in story and in rendition." It is a "tremendous homage to the man regarded as the prophet who brought The Church of Jesus Christ back to the earth." And Church scholar Joseph Fielding McConkie stated that "for those who love the taste of truth, this movie will be a feast."
