SIPA's Leaders in Global Energy lecture series is the centerpiece of the School's initiative to identify solutions to the challenge of creating sustainable energy while protecting the environment.
Brazil is a leader in renewable energy and a key player in energy security and climate change debates. Edison Lobão, Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, said "Yes, we can alter significantly the balance between fossil fuels and alternative energy."
Lobão was introduced by Visiting Professor Manuel Pinho, director of the International Energy MBA at the Lisbon Institute.
The Leaders in Global Energy series is supported by EDP, Energias de Portugal, S.A. EDP's interests in conventional and renewable power extend across 11 countries on four continents, including in the United States.

This attempt to paint Mr. Lobão as a global energy leader is a sad reflection of this university's complicity with environmental destruction and unchecked greed. We bemoan the rapacious and ecologically destructive practices espoused by Lobão, such as replacing intact ancient rainforests with sugar cane plantations and building massive dams for hydroelectric power to feed aluminum processing plants downriver.
