SCOTUS is completely out of line on more Rights than just the Fourth Amendment. They ARE frequently running amuck -- and they are remarkably inconsistent and contradictory. The only half-way decent decision they've made lately is the 2nd Amendment (DC v. Heller) -- and they still left THAT somewhat open to gov't "regulation".

"they"....you keep referring to police as "they". "They" - get the shit kicked out of them on a daily basis country wide.  Therefore - I think maybe a little leeway should be considered when "They" stop a car load of drunks in the middle of nowhere - so "they" can go home to their families...just like YOU..and pay taxes and be regular members of society just like YOU. Maybe you two should do a ride along..a diff. perspective perhaps. U wont though.
