Just bought a 99 z28 camaro and i have to replace the throwout bearing. While im in there im going to do cluth, pressure plate, possibly fly wheel...still deciding on whether to go pilot bearing or bushing. Any ideas? pros or cons? oh and im gonna buy the mcleod clutch master cylinder, the adjustable one. maybe a slave cylinder too...

I am getting this clutch...

I've bought a few things from them, some guys and girls are smart they know there stuff...Also the car finally broke down so tommorow we will have to hitch a ride, the bearing came in today, 1 day shipping...so if i get a camera i can take pics or video and post on youtube...thanks for you input on this....oh the clutch question about having it pressed was because i would tell my father not to keep it pressed for so long periods, we are in chicago illinois lots of traffic

I guess it depends on who you get. My experience at AutoZone was the exact opposite on exactly the same part for a small block Chevy. In fact, I was stunned at how knowledgeable the clerk was for this old school application...go figure.

thanks autozone sucks it was 12 bucks they they did not have it i order so i had to pay a diffrent company 30 bucks so i could have it by friday, not sure if needed but im better off with it, just pop it in....when i press the cluth pedal it feels like the car hops, even if i barely touch it..so i decided to buy all the clutch parts..i had also replaced the cylinder that pushed the plate since it went out last year
oh my father also tends to have his foot on the clutch at lights, somtimes they take forever, can this casue any problems or wear and tear...thanks for you input and cool video very helpful

unless it's a short light or stop sign, I'd kick it into neutral and wait it out. Then, before the light goes green (watch for yellow in opposing traffic) put the clutch in, wait a second or two, THEN throw it into gear.

Pilot bearings center the end of input shaft, & sit inside the crankshaft. When you slide the input shaft through the clutch disks, the tip rests inside the pilot bearing. The movement between the input shaft and the crank is ZERO when your foot is OFF the clutch. So the bearing does nothing. The only time the pilot bearing does something is when your foot is ON the clutch & there's a difference in the speed between the disks and pressure plate/flywheel...like at a light & the engine is idling.
