Dr. John Walsh, a neuroscience researcher from Worcester, Mass., stood Tuesday with 150 other sign-carrying supporters of government-financed health care outside the building where 400 invited guests would attend a regional health care reform forum sponsored by the Obama White House.

Walsh passed out yellow fliers that denounced President Barack Obama for failing to live up to promises to consider a Canadian-style health insurance system. "Single payer is the choice in the polls," Walsh declared.

Sandy Eaton of Quincy, Mass., and a member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, came to the only forum scheduled for the Northeast to add his voice to those demanding that national policymakers weigh the merits of a government-financed system when they discuss reform options. "Lets make sure there is a fair and legitimate comparison," Eaton said...

I have lived in a country w/ single payer before and trying to sell my American house to go back . When I tell Americans I'm moving to Belgium for health care, they call me a commie, tell me that the waits are long over there etc. There jaws drop when I tell them I am A Belgian citizen and have used the health care there and it works. Most of these people can't even find Belgium on a map.

The US system is all about rationing-the working class can't afford good health care. Wake Up America.

Its hard to blame Americans really when they are billions are spent to scare them with "horror stories" of single-payer systems, while relatively little money is spent to disseminate information regarding how barbaric our system is- that 18,000 die every year because of health insurance. Americans are waking up on healthcare, I believe. And while sadly it will be another 10 years before we have a single-payer system, at least there will be reform this year that will decrease the # of uninsured.

Please explain. I don't see the difference somehow. It seems that if the government funds the schools, police departments, etc., then they are government run. I am just trying to understand the difference between government funded and government run. Thank you.

Those things are only government funded not government run. There's a huge difference. Whenever super filthy rich snobs who get their money by cheating run anything the whole system fails "magically." Everything that the government is running is failing right now take that for evidence. Funding only takes money and that's all the Gov. is good for really.
