Useing MHS parts as a test point for Powering a 10W red LED with sixteen AA batteries (Until my li-ion's get shipped that is) Running though x2 700mA constant current circuits, Its max is 1000mA but choose to underpower it to lessen the allready major heat issues. (Please note the batteries have not been replaced sense dragoncon so its not running at full charge.) The first blade outside is a thick wall polycarb with ten feet of Polypropylene. The second is a MR blade without the stock defuser and about six feet of Polypropylene with a mylar reflector in the tip.

  • is the MR blade from the "joe jedi" or a regular FX series?

  • FX series, it was the only scrap i had at the time to act as a thin walled blade for testing.

  • That's pretty impressive!! Do you think something like an Ultra Blade would be significantly brighter? Seems to me like there are only so many ways to make a blade.. if its just a Poly C tube with Polypropylene inside.. Do you think its the thicker wall or the extra Polypropylene that makes the first one much brighter?

  • The thickwall blade i used had a mirror in the tip. The lense was allso better suited for the thickness, i believe it was a 5 degree collimation lense. Outside of that i they both had the same amount of Polypropylene it was just alot more dense in the thick wall due to the smaller inner circumference. But in general you will get a brighter blade with thin walled pipe with the around 10 degree angle of collimation. the second one was infact brighter in person it just fadeing to orange half wa up

  • The infrared filter on that old camera blocked out a good chunk of visable light on the video so its hard to tell from it.

  • Thanks for responding with the video!! Hopefully we'll keep seeing more and more of these and eventually have a nice video repository...

  • No problem, Hopefuly i can better video of this up after i get the batteries replaced, This one was a bit rushed :P.
