FUTURE MISSISSAUGA (Visioning Symposium) Hammerson Hall, Living Arts Centre

I had this question yesterday (February 23, 2008) evening at the Future Mississauga Community Engagement Visioning Charrette...

"Hi, this is just a really really quick question. How many people are from-- live in Malton?"

ZIP. NADA.

I asked the same question yesterday morning to a Conversation Cafe room of 79 people.

"Hi, quick question. How many people are from- live in Malton?"

Same. ZIP. NADA.

On my way out, one gentleman came up to me, smiled and said, Thanks for coming all the way from Malton. Told him I didn't live there --that there really was ZERO MALTON.

I visisted on my way through Mississauga,, travelling through the Derry/Airport Road area. I admit we didn't see a lot of it, but I found the commercial areas to be quite run down and covered with litter. The next time I'm there however, I would like to visit the Westwood Mall.

Don't have to trust you. I know hey can ban you for no good reason (they have a plaque on the entry saying just that --can make you leave "without cause". I have Freedom of Informatrion documents that prove they also keep notes on you should you wander up to Security and ask them questions about their practices.

if your a black kid in the library and your with your friends rolling in groups, trust me they call security. they like to ban people for no reason... its a community centre for crying out loud, everyone should be allowed.... what they gunna do next start bannin them off the sidewalks infront of the community centre too?

Hi again. Yes, I know quite a bit about that Malton Community Centre. I'm researching that centre using Freedom of Information to secure City documents.

On how Staff decide on what programs to run and especially on treatment of Youth at that facility.

There have been an astounding number of Youth banned, issued trespass and arrested at Malton Community Centre since Jan 2006. Kids as young as 13 with parents/guardians not advised.

By contrast, the schools rarely suspend/expel kids.

yea yesturday was the playoffs thats why. I ran a basketball tournament a couple years back, it was great to see how many kids came out/ I wanna do one again but its just time consuming to get everything together and the community centre costs so much to rent the gym out. Its easier to give a smile then to think of something mean to say. Haters need to stop hating and fallback, its time to appreciate what we have and do better for our community that we all live in.

Hi again unknown860. There are many peole who agree with you writing" If anything, Malton needs more programs in which kids would be interested in such as Basketball". That's sometihng I really found odd yesterday when visiting Malton. Beautiful  sunny day but NO one was playing basketball at the community centre courts. Saw kids playing road hockey, skateboarding, biking, --but no basketball and I found that very odd. Maybe there was some champion basketball game of TV? Who knows. Weird though.
