Many Governments want to control what information you can access, who you can communicate with and how you can express your opinions. This video introduces a project which seeks to empower non-governmental organizations to overcome these challenges. The NGO-in-a-Box, Security Edition (http://security.ngoinabox.org) aims to assist the non-profit sector providing them with a set of tools and guides to increase awareness of risks and provide practical solutions related to digital security. The Box is published in: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and (parts in) Persian.
This set of tools and guides is aimed at the non-technical user. Each program and its installation is explained with step-by-step screenshots and concise descriptions of it purposes and use. The majority of the included programs are free (Free and Open Source or Freeware), meaning that users will have no problems with licences, etc.
The NGO-in-a-Box package is complemented by the manual on "Digital
Security and Privacy for Human Rights Defenders" (http://www.frontlinedefenders.org/manual/en/esecman/) which describes and explains for a non-technical audience some of the main risks we face as well as possible solutions.
