I guess I was not alone watching the Royal Wedding of Kate and William a couple of weeks back. I found the event simply outstanding in many respects... what a beautiful couple! and so many people gathering at the center of London to celebrate...What I found particularly awesome was the choice of music during the ceremony...

I understand "This Is the Day" composed by John Rutter was specially commissioned for the wedding. OMG, it is a pure beauty and will certainly end up being a standard - the rendition by the Westminster Abbey choir was magical.... I was moved when I heard the song. It resonates a bit like the "beauty and the beast" to me...

For this month challenge, I thought I should give a try...not that I have a proper transcript or any scores of the song to start with...as a matter of fact I guess it has yet to be published somewhere... Also, I obviously don't have the Westminster Abbey choir at home (my living room would in any case be too small to accommodate) - so I decided I would have to content myself with playing it alone on my piano. I laid down some of the harmonics and arrangements on a piece of paper to get the flow...
I've taken many liberties and much freedom in this rendition...only tried to capture some of John Rutter's spirit (not sure I succeeded though, but hey, I'm not a classical musician either)...As you will eventually notice, I got lost somewhere in the middle and ended up inserting a part of "Central West Park" by John Coltrane, that was the only way I felt I could resolve a change in harmonics at that moment....in brief, I was just messing around with the piano and having a hell of a lot of fun...so what you see is what you get...In a way, I wanted to pay my respects to Kate and William, to their country and to the people of britain I love deeply.
I hope you will enjoy.

PS -
To Kate and William: if you ever fancy listening to the song on a piano live, I'd be delighted to come over... otherwise, I'm sure my wife will be happy to be the host.
To John Rutter: sorry for the freedom I've taken with your masterpiece...yet, I, as many around the world, have to thank you for having composed this song and for inspiring me greatly that day.

Kind Regards,
Arnaud
