I remember this being on the news around the time of the miners strike in 1984/5, and for some reason it was very controversial. I guess anything related to the strike would have got peoples backs up! Despite being so tough, I always thought the game had something cool or magical about it, and the graphics were damn good for the time.

@DerSchmu Monty on the Run and Auf Wiedersehen Monty are nice on the C=64 as well. Look the same than the ZX Spectrum, only without the colors getting messed up.

NAM FLASHBACK!!! Never DID manage to complete this bloody intolerable game (a political videogame for the Miner's Strike! Superb! Pointless! The guy who made it was a speccy-Speccy-wanking clown as well!) and watching this brings back the old hurt and shame and humiliation and BLOODY ANGER!!!!!!

Great video, I used to have and play this game.
The only thing is I could never get anywhere, You have some amazing ZX Spectrum game play skills

not only did the C64 have COLOR but it also didnt have that stupid color clash that ruins most Spectrum games. HELLO R-type on the speccy didnt have color clash because they found a way around its just LAZY prgramming that doomed the machine and also the machines inability to go past 128k

escoiagirl as much as I enjoy seeing Spectrum games it is clear the C64 was a better machine
I was ever fan from the C64 but must admit that "Wanted: Monty Mole" looks better on the spectrum. The spectrum computer wasn`t my cup of tea but I understand why this system have fans. :)

I was surprised that the speccy and C64 versions were so different. The C64 version looks like another game.

Thanks so much for uploading this...I played this exact version of Monty Mole on my Spectrum as a kid in the 80's. What memories...it's exactly as I remember it! And the terrifyingly short crusher at 3:44 still scares me. I never made it past the 8th screen, as I recall...embarrassing to admit to that now, although this game is clearly no cakewalk!
Thanks again for the wander down Memory Lane :)

No bother mate. So damn tough this one. Those walls that won't open up unless you collect the coal in the right order were a nightmare. The randomness of the crushers would end the game in seconds.

looks like you lost the will to live. why was there no exit on that last screen! the mole should just go the coal merchants and get a bag of coal...less hazardous to his health. i was lucky enough to own this and get to about the fifth screen. god i was shit at games in those good old days!!

One of my early attempts at making a video. It was and still is a tough game. On the last screen you need to leave a piece of coal and collect the bit of coal on the prvious screen passed the candle. Then go back under the candle collect the coal and the wall opens up. That sounds like rambling nonsense!
I remade this as a walkthrough so it's easier to see what I mean if you watch that.
