Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach discusses flaws in Lamar Smith's HR 2164 E-Verify illegal immigration bill, introduced in 2011. (Better audio than the original version.)

Kobach explains fundamental flaws in the illegal immigration bill H.R. 2164, which takes away powers of the states to enforce e-Verify. He asks why the Chamber of Commerce so eagerly supports this bill when in the past they have opposed all measures to control illegal immigration workplace enforcement and reduce the number of illegal alien workers.

Kobach notes that the fundamental theme of the 2010 Tea Party movement was federal government overreaching its bounds and preempting states' rights. He asks why the rush to support Smith's HR 2164 - which clearly diminishes states' rights? Kobach suggests that after the 2012 election with more bargaining strength, a better immigration workplace enforcement law could be enacted which would unify immigration law enforcement but not preempt state's rights to enforce immigration law.

Kris Kobach gave this presentation at the Missouri Eagle Forum on June 22, 2010.
