Always follow what the service manual recommends. I believe there are differences and one of the easiest ways to know for sure is to compare the MSDS' of each, which should be available online. I really don't think you can go wrong with Honda MTF though. It probably has some added friction modifiers and cleaning agents vs. motor oil. A bit more spendy, but at 2qts it won't bust the bank too bad.
I've tried it both ways and the difference is barely measurable. Good point though. I'd say if it concerns anyone, then be sure to get the car level. Thanks for the comment.
I used 10W-30 motor oil, so aftermarket. I've used both and never noticed a difference. Of course, you can't really go wrong with using Honda MT fluid either.
