@kawboyCAFE In Chicago about every other ride I have at least one close call but 40 years of living here I just always expect it. I wonder about new riders and people on motorcycles from out of state. They may not realize the danger if they are from a more rural area.

It is my understanding that new riders in their 40's and over, have the highest accident rates. I am not sure what the main reason is behind this, but I beleive that it is because they do not have the experience of those that have riden since a young age, and have the built in reflexes, that u mentioned. My advice, take it slow, ride further behind other cars, and take a motorcycle safety class. Even though I have riden motorcycles since I was 15, I took the course, it helped, I learned alot.

@moose3971 I believe my reflexes are quick because I developed them in my twenties. I really believe it is harder to start in your 40's and like you said much more time and caution is needed.

Multiple good topics along with the voice of experience. Tom McCahill (Mechanix Illustrated test driver and originator of the "0 to 60" measurement) thought anticipation was a key to saftey. He wrote that while on the road he would imagine all the things that could possibly go wrong at that moment and then figure a response/escape for each. Every year diminishes my ability to bounce so I turn the music down and use Tom's technique. Great vid!

@Moosepiesandwich Interesting you mentioned music.
I never have listened to music in all my years of riding.
That may be a good future topic to explore in a video.
