US and Britain have issues travel alerts for Europe and some governments in Europe have increased threat level for public places and tourist attractions. Since 9/11 many people in America and around the world have come to associate terrorism with Islam and Muslims in America are working hard to change this misconception. Islamic Society of North America is the largest Islamic organization in North America. ISNA's vision is to be an exemplary and unifying Islamic organization that contributes to the betterment of the Muslim community and the American society at large. This year ISNA celebrated its 47th anniversary in the US and the 47th annual convention was held in Chicago. This year's theme was to build compassionate communities where American Muslims could share their lives with their neighbors of various faith groups. Dr. Ingrid Mattson, the first woman President of an Islamic organization in North America, now the former President, emphasized on the fact that since she took over ISNA is focusing more on women empowerment within Muslim communities and on bridging the gap between the youth and the elderly. Many different lectures by renowned Muslims scholars and discussions were organized that focused primarily on Interfaith dialog and around 400 American Muslim businesses participated in the convention to showcase their products, some of which are featured in today's program including a Muslim puppet show for children, a book of photographs of American Muslim women who participate actively in various spheres of public life while wearing a hijab / head covering.
