Playing through the first area in Recalhorn. This arcade platform game by Taito from 1993 is a prototype that surprisingly was never released. It's an excellent game with very good graphics and music. What makes the gameplay so fun is that you can ride on the backs of various animals e.g. monkey, seal, lion and then can then use their unique moves.

  • The game did not get past prototype because the people who played the test version in Japan thought that the controls were too simplistic and that it didn't have a good storyline. That is why Taito cancelled Recalhorn.

  • @MysticArksRevenge Thanks a lot for the info. I still find it very surprising though. The controls seem fine for a game like this and with such excellent graphics, music and gameplay does having a great storyline really matter all that much in an arcade platformer like this. They should have had more people like me at the location tests!

  • @merlin196 Yeah, then Recalhorn could've been released. How would you feel if Taito bought and owned the Nickelodeon and Viacom videogame license in the first place, instead of crappy-ass THQ? Do you think Taito would've done a good job on their games?

  • @MysticArksRevenge I'm not familiar myself with those licensed games by THQ but I think yes Taito would probably have made a good job doing those games. Most games developed by Taito are of a high standard and it's very rare they make a bad game.

  • Holy! this game is beautiful and I'm seriously diggin the music! I swear, between you and narox I'm going to go broke looking for all of these awesome boards, thank you for showing :D

  • I thought you'd probably like this one. The graphics are very detailed and colourful and there are some nice catchy tunes too. It's strange that a game this good was never released.

  • Great game. If u enjoy this game don't forget to check doremi fantasy on SNES.

  • his music note attack reminds me of "temp" in my old sega genisis

  • @merlin196 I am glad you agree. Viacom should've appointed Taito to do the licensed videogames that THQ currently does in the first place., and Team Zuntata would do the music to them.

The only bad videogame that I know of that Taito did not do a good job on was Violence Fight from 1989. Taito is also infamous for putting in a lot of Engrish in their games, and if they were appointed the task to doing the Nickelodeon games, then they had to learn Englisn the right way.

  • They could have easily released that later on Saturn or PSone. Damn Taitos!!

  • Amazing OST for 1993. And now!

  • I can see why this game never came out. It looks too easy for an arcade game.
