  • I fail to understand why you would participate in this rather than the actual thing.

  • @burpingtiger NOAA put in a congressional request to purchase an actual island for the purposes of science education, however, at the cost of one gazillion dollars the request was denied. If you have a spare island please let me know. In the meantime, I encourage you to write your elected representative to voice your opinion.

  • Hey Joeevjen,

Good eyes! The windsock follows the Second Life wind model so it changes all the time. Also, since the runway is at the end of our land (reality) the plane can only land one direction.

But man, I miss weather island so much. I got a weather buoy from a builder there, Its now on Xstreet but with less prims. Ive got something rare, w00t!

  • Jcfreitas,

The problem has been corrected. :-) Good eyes! I invite you to visit our island and verify it for yourself.

  • Being NOAA what it is I found this surprising and went on a check and today (Apr 21st) it is correct: if you position yourself at the beginning of runway 27 you will be looking towards West... Perhaps they already corrected the problem?

  • It's fascinating, but I've just noticed that the runway designations are the wrong way round... Runway 27 should point west towards 270 degrees and Runway 09 should point east towards 090 degrees. Other than that it's brilliant!

  • Being a licensed USCG Master (Captain) I find this NOAA VR experience a fantastic tool. I use NOAA's weather pages to keep my passengers and crew safe by avoiding bad weather. Im happy to see NOAA taking the jump into the 3D world. You guys are fantastic to do this! Good job!

  • Awesome
