One ounce filter will keep most parasites...if not all bacteria...out of your water. Counting 2 one quart yogurt containters used as a dirty holding bucket and a clean receving container, the whole setup weighs 3 ounces. This is not a guaranteed safe system and has not been tested on humans..except on me!

  • Are you my dentist?

  • @matthewjamesroberts Nope...I may be a lot of things, but I'm not your dentist!

  • The sawyer squeeze weights oh...2.5 oz for the filter and 1 oz for the dirty bag. 3.5 oz for tested and proven 0.1 micron absolute protection. AND, by use of a tornado tube to connect a platy to the outlet, you can backflush it in the field also by squeezing backwards easily if need be.. clean thruput is also ~2L /min. Best thing currently going and only $50

  • @duskyman1 Thanks...I'll check it out.

  • djbarryiii you've sparked quite the discussion with your 1 micron filter. the biodiesel filter i got (1 micron) has two layers of material. does yours? i'm going to b brave and try using your setup.

  • @bubbyman50 No, mine just has a single layer. The synthetic felt does have two definite sides though: a rougher "fluffier" side and a smoother side. Another reminder on using the filter...it will probably keep out the parasites but not the bacteria, which are usually one micron or less in diameter.

  • @khoafish You're right! Eggs are great protein sources...they're cheap and if you hard boil them they'll keep for weeks. Thanks for reminding me about them...I'm going to start taking them camping with me again!

  • I think this is a great filter medium for sediment removal. The finest silt around 15 microns. Rust is in the 25-50 micron range. After filtration, your water is clear for effective UV treatment such as from a 2.8 oz Steripen--something I'm contemplating replacing my 17 oz Pur filter pump with. The acessory prefilter replacement for a Steripen is 40 microns and $5, same price as the larger 1 micron bag.

  • A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Especially in this case

  • I work with "bag" filters a lot , and filtration media in general in my production job. This is felted filter bag media. There are different materials, and surface finishes. They all depend on depth filtration to perform. Despite manufacturers claims to the contrary, they all suck. They depend on depth filtration to load up the filter and close off pores to make it work. It works minimally at first until this has occured.

  • @duskyman1 If you go to EBAY and look at the adds for one micron bio diesel filters and read the spec sheet you will find they are rated for 1 to 100 microns and that is just a little better than winddow screen. If I am wrong and this is actually rated for an absolute one micron I would be very interested in the source and brand

  • A filter within a filter? Filterception
