When I was eight years old my father George took me to see a silent movie at an old theater that still had a pipe organ in it. The movie they were showing was Buster Keaton's the General, the rest was history! I became a big fan of all of Keaton's work.

So in 2003 I wanted to write a song in his memory. The band members were not too hip on the idea, but I did'nt care. In fact, they cound not understand why I wanted to write such a song about something that was so in the past history, and that no one would know who I was talking about?

It started out as a basic folk ballad and developed towards something different in the end. I wanted to always pitch a French horn with a pipe organ and see what would happen. The counter melody worked well with the French horn and the strings. Fellow part-time bandmate John Baker performed on the horn. The pipe organ seems to work as almost a church wake at the end.

I don't care if my song ballad is not hip, or too old fashion pop, it seemed to grow out of the love I had for Buster's work and that is where it will always be. James Nelson, from the Black Irish band, did the lead vocal.

The song is on our bands un-lucky 13th CD, American Landscapes. Go to CD Baby and look under Black Irish band if you are interested.
