Tribute.MOV is a celebration of Filipino filmmakers distinguished for a singularly fierce vision. It is borne out of the belief that Philippine cinema and its eventual tributaries into art and music and literature form a cultural aesthetic that the rest of the world not only needs but deserves to investigate, immerse itself in, become intimate with. The .MOV Book/DVD/CD Series aims to fill the vacuum of artifacts from that aesthetic. The past/present/future of Philippine independent cinema forged into tactile totems for generations to study.
Its not as if it comes as a surprise --- Lav Diaz as musician, as songwriter, as rock and roller. Hes played with the Brockas, scored some of his films. A record like this actually makes sense. Some of these songs may have been taken from his films --- you first heard the lyrics to Paalam in Death In The Land Of Encantos, Awit Ni Patricia was sung by a character in Melancholia, there is a reference to Batang West Side in Ill Be Gone --- but even those that arent track through the same emotional and spiritual and sociopolitical terrain as his films. Ina Ng Nawawala was written on the day his friend Lean Alejandro was shot. Its the oldest song here. But its deep-seated sense of loss and love suffuses everything. You get a sense of purging and much like his cinema, these songs are integral to his praxis, pertinent to his ongoing struggle to make peace with our universal fear of solitude.
Id like to extend my deepest gratitude to everybody who lent a hand in making this possible, for the unwavering faith and dedication that helped make this bear fruit.

ANG PINAGDAANANG BUHAY
Paggising mo sa isang umaga
Walang kasamang nakaabang
Walang kaibigang naghihintay
Nangungulila ka sa 'yong pag-iisa.
Naglalaro sa 'yong isipan
Ang dating daang binabagtas
Napabayaang mga bakas
Isang pangarap na di na natupad.
Paghakbang mo sa lansangan
Naroon sila, nakamasid
Mga aninong nakasunod
Mga multo ng 'yong kahapon.
Nakikibaka ka sa araw-araw
Gumagapang sa karimlan
Lumalaban na mapunan
Ang panghihina ng 'yong kamalayan.
Sa pagdating ng labis na kapaguran
Nilulunod ng panahon
Umaasa kang mawawala
Ang bigat ng 'yong mga dalahin.
Sana'y humupa rin ang unos
Maglunoy ka sa tag-ulan
Yakapin mo ang kawalan
Huwag kang matakot sa 'yong pag-iisa.
At sa huli, ang tangi mong maaalala
Isang mukhang nakatungo
Isang pangalang papalayo
Isang pag-ibig na walang katuparan.
At sa huli, ang tangi mong maaalala
Isang larawang naglalaho
Isang pangalang papalayo
Isang pag-ibig na walang katuparan.
At sa huli, ang tangi mong maaalala
Mga pangalang papalayo
Mga aninong naglalaho
Sa isang mundo na 'yong iiwanan.
THE LIFE LIVED
When you woke up one morning
No one was beside you
No friend was waiting
Orphaned by your solitude
Playing in your mind
The road once travelled
Abandoned footprints
Dreams that died hard
You walk down the street
Under their stares
The shadows that dog you
Ghosts of days past
Everyday you struggle
Crawling in gloom
Fighting to arrest
Your consciousness weakening
As severe fatigue hits your body
Drowning in times passage
You hope it will lose its gravity
This weight you bear
Hope for the storm to calm
Wade in the rain
Embrace your loss
Dont fear your solitude
And in the end all you will remember
Is a face looking down
Is a name receding
Is a love unrequited
And in the end all you will remember
Is a picture fading
Is a name receding
Is a love unrequited
And in the end all you will remember
Are the names receding
The shadows dissolving
Of the world youre leaving
