This is a fly-through of a 3D, Mandelbulb fractal created with Mandelbulb 3D (download http://bit.ly/cYqnmf ). First time I've rendered such a long sequence - 12500 frames at about 3 1/2 minutes per frame for about 730 hours of rendering time. Next time I will do more test renders before committing to final version. :)

Music created by my friend Richard Sharpless. He sometimes records his keyboard meanderings and hands me a disc full of 'Possible Soundtracks'. This one fit the bill perfectly.

Mac users might want to try Mandelbulber http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/

you can also explore fractals in your browser with Fractal Lab: http://fractal.io/

  • The audio is way too perfect and its tripping me the F out LOL

  • @Polaf3456 (^_^) That slidy, floaty feeling is such a good match. Funny how some of the timing and changes seem to line-up with events in the video. I added the song after finishing the render and they just kind of synched up.

  • is there a version of it for mac?

  • @hyporealistic No Mac version of m3D. But you can try a similar app in your browser. Best with Chrome or other modern browser. look for fractal dot io (i'll put link in vid description)

  • @hyporealistic I forgot to also mention Mandelbulber. A similar app to Mandelbulb 3D. I believe it is open source and has a Mac version.

  • Absolutely love this. Wish I could answer your questions. For now I wish this was my screensaver. Is that possible?

  • @Bettinatizzy Hi Bettiny. :) Thanks. You can download a .mp4 file of the video on my Vimeo account. vimeo dot com/donwhitaker There must be a screensaver around somewhere that'll play videos.

  • @kitchendon That effect of abstract videos synching up is very cool, and an awesome side effect of our awesome brains. The same thing happened when I played a piano concert with a feedback loop projected on the wall: I got a ton of compliments on how in sync the music and the video were, when I had done no practicing or editing to achieve that. Very cool, awesome program.

  • @ObamaDefeat2012 Yup. I just don't get it. Maybe if I saw the mathematical formulas being expressed in this video I would be more impressed by how numbers translate into images.
