11. Christian Doctrine - Worship: God Transforms

Lecture by Mark Driscoll. Sadly, worship has too often been considered merely a style of music or event such as a Sunday church service. And, while worship is big enough to include these things it is by no means reduced to them. In many ways, to speak of worship is to speak of all of life in its fullness lived to God's glory and our joy. Therefore, in my sermon on worship this week which is part of the Doctrine:

What Relevant Scriptures: (not exhaustive)
Worship: Rom 11:36-12:1, John 4: 23-24, Revelation, etc...
Idolatry: Col 2:23, Rom 1:25, Exod 32; Deut 4:15-31,1 Cor 10:13-14, etc...

What is worship? (Define in your own words)
How has your concept of worship been distorted or limited?
Why do we worship?

What does it look like to worship unceasingly?
Read Romans 12:1, What is the connection between sacrifice and worship?
What is idolatry?
Expose your Idols (see page 2 for expanded questions)
Who/what are your external idols?
Who/what are your internal idols?
Who/what is your mediator between you and God?
Where is your functional heaven?
Who/what is your functional savior?
What good thing has become a god thing?
What idols am I selling to others?
Redemption from idolatry

What does it feel like to expose your idols to the light of day?
How does worshiping God effect the worship of idols?
Do you believe that worship of Jesus can free you from bondage to idols and sin? Why or why not?

What would offering your body as a living sacrifice look like?
What do you need to change to experience personal renewal with Jesus and worship unceasingly?

Prayer: Take time to Reflect and meditate on the death of Christ.

Praise God for being worthy of worship!
Pray for the Holy Spirit to expose idols in our lives.
Pray for a heart of unceasing worship.

@djdaredevil27 Truth, to be truth, must be exclusive, yes or no? What does Christ mean by, "I am THE way, THE truth..." ? What about "Go, and make disciples of all nations"?

What if they aren't interested in followers, but truth? "Freely you have recieved..." Does that ring a bell at all? You post indicates that you are a very sensitive and considerate person so, please, give greater consideration to THE person, and what He lived and said. ALL of it.

@djdaredevil27 Its not bashing other people when you tell them their religion is wrong. It needs to be done because so many people are following false gods and godesses. We as christians can't be afraid to confront people about this stuff and correct them with a loving aditude. Something being around for thousands of years doesn't make it right. The religions of this world cannot all be right. They are in direct contridiction with eachother on very important matters.

I understand that your a christian just like myself but why would you tell people that other religions are wrong?

I stopped watching this as soon as you said that worshiping the earth is wrong.

To some people that is right there people have been doing it for thousands of years American Indians for example.

Maybe next time dont bash others and you might get more followers
