God and Gold: Britain, America and the Making of the Modern

Walter Russell Mead, a foreign policy expert of the Council on Foreign Relations, speaks about his new book, "God and Gold: Britain, America and the Making of the Modern World".

Mead argues that the key to the predominance of the United States and England has been the individualistic ideology of the prevailing Anglo-American religion. The synergy of this ideology and capitalism propelled Britain and the U.S. to global dominance, and as a result, the two nations were able to create the liberal, democratic system whose economic and social influence continues to grow around the world. Mead goes on to discuss the purpose of Anglo-American power in the post-9/11 world.

Problem with capitalism is money becomes god, problem with communism no 1 has any money and the state becomes god. Good thing about atheism is 1 does not bow to any god, or any thing for that matter. In truth capitalism, communism, fascism (in their purest form - any extreme system) always resorts to military force when failing, thus speeding up it's demise! UK & soon USA are prime examples!

I agree with mohakom and some other rational commentators.

My suggestion to those that oppose capitalism and communism is very simple, if you and your acquaintance dislike either of this mechanism you have the freedom or choice to set up own system of governance and see whether it's sustainable.

It's easier to blame past occurrences on one's current unfruitful position but only freedom will set you free nor love or truth - but 'freedom.'
