Andrew Shapter's "Before the Music Dies" is available for download at http://www.roadwingsentertainment.com/

It's full of nuggets like this one...showing how easy it is to "manufacture" a pop star.

A dialogue between a modern wannabe popstar and her agent:

    - Can you sing?

    - No.

    - No problem! Can you dance?

    - No.

    - No problem! What are sour sizes?

    - 90-60-90!

    - That will be a golden album! No, even a platinum!

This is how Kate Perry and Justin Bieber became popstars.

Mark Knopfler, Freddy Mercury...and so on, that ARE REAL popstars!

But see the funny thing is that when Steve Poltz just made it up on the spot and played it, it was so much more believable even though it was just the same dull song. He gave it some rhythm and attitude and there's something about just a guy with a guitar and a smile on his face that goes beyond the song itself.

As much as I dislike the manufacturing of pop stars, and I support the message this video is trying to convey, you can't deny the fact that the song they came up with is just plain awful. There's no hook at all. It would never get radio play. So while you can manufacture all these things, writing a catchy song still takes some skill.
