The Townsend Debate, which started in 2004, is an annual competition that challenges Purdue Agriculture undergraduates to demonstrate their excellence in written and oral communication. Over the years, participation, and quality of argumentation and research have greatly improved.
The debate is named in honor of its generous donor Wayne Townsend (BS; 1951) who served as a Trustee for Purdue University (1989-2004), and has been an active supporter of undergraduate education in the College of Agriculture.
This year's debate was held November 3, 2010 in the Deans Auditorium in Pfendler Hall.
This year's debate topic:
Land-grant universities are positioned to solve 21st century problems.

“I am always pushing Whole Foods to my friends and family to the point that they are think I work for you. That is why a friend just took great pleasure in sending me this article about Whole Foods and quality standards not being what they used to be. Please respond so I can defend Whole Foods to my friend!”
