An investigation into the death of a motorcyclist has been launched, after he died during a police pursuit in Sydney's south.
The 21-year-old bike rider from Canterbury died after colliding with an oncoming car in Kogarah at about 2.30am (AEST) on Saturday.
Officers from Botany Bay Local Area Command had been pursuing him, after he was allegedly seen speeding through Daceyville.
When he didn't stop, he was pursued, police said.
During the pursuit, the motorcyclist allegedly crossed to the wrong side of the road and crashed into the car of a 31-year-old driver and three passengers.
The bike rider was treated at the crash site but died on arrival at St George Hospital a short time later, police said.
The car driver and his passengers were shaken but escaped injury.
Officers with the Crash Investigation Unit are preparing a report, with police from Miranda Local Area Command forming a team to investigate the crash.
The crash followed another fatal accident, which killed a man on the state's central coast.
At about 1.45am (AEST) on Saturday, a car ran off the Pacific Highway at Doyalson and hit a tree, with the 20-year-old male driver dying at the scene.
A 19-year-old female passenger was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for treatment of injuries, which police believe are not life-threatening - 10 December 2011.

  • @robwhite1010 Further to that I am so tired of hearing people always blaming the police. For god's sake gone are the days where people took responsibilities for their stupid actions. Now everyone points the finger. How about blaming this moron for leading them on a high speed chase. Why run!? Our judicial system is weak as piss anyway? What's the worse that can happen? Suspended sentence? 3 months jail. Pffff I'm going to eat some red doritos...

  • @robwhite1010 ???? No victim no crime? What about the excessive high speeds he is travelling at. I don't know about you but myself, family and other friends regulary drive vehicles on NSW roads. Why do we beckon down to this oxy thief who put me and my family at risk for driving at high speeds. The cops are doing their job. I don't know about you but since I can remember police chase people who brake the law. This moron knew they would and he himself caused this tragedy.

  • sorry i dont agree with your racist comment but happy new year its pretty simple if there were more jobs that paid a decent wage there would be less people dole . I could fix this problem in a day so wtf are our leaders doing ill tell you setting us up for a fall. Hold on tight its going to be a wild year. FUCK THE POLICE NO VICTIM NO CRIME STOP YOUR MADNESS or you will come back as a crack head to earn your lesson ... :)
