  • Hitchhiking is not safer than free hand climbing. You can cut out doing both and that strap keeps you on the pole so you either candy cane or bump down the pole. I think it really depends on the climber. I climb much faster and safer using free hand and hitchhiking tends to wear me out much faster than free hand.

  • bordersoldier, you must have misread my comment. I am 10000% for wearing all types of safety gear. I was commenting on someone who thinks free climbing is ok to do and I totally disagree

  • @Rangerbelt you would get fired for not wearing your seat belt if you crashed your linetruck right? so why not wear a safety

  • where are working that looks like home for me

  • Watch your right leg, you've got a lot of "throw" in it. See how your left leg remains closer to the pole? Nice to see your improvement though.

  • A smart lineman works safe. Call it what you want, but using the safety gear that is invented for the purpose is smart.

  • I'm with chipotle, I work for cable and we have to use the buck squeeze, and i've had my fair share of jokes made at my expense. Best part is everybody with something to say went up the same poles I climbed, except they were in a bucket. At the end of the day I'll be going home knowing I earned my check.

  • fuck it. its a helluva lot safer. i'd rather go slow than to burn a pole or worse. get paid hourly anyway. whats the rush? all these people talk shit about hitch hiking and hoboing. its not a pissing contest.

  • I'm in my 13th week of lineman training. We tap out 10 forty footers in the morning...work all day, and then tap out 5 to 10 forty footers in the afternoon on poles that are chewed to hell and back. I would kill myself if i had to use my safety the entire way. Just free climb....It's ten times faster and easier. Good hitch hiking and hoboing though!
