Unfortunately on Sept 30, 2011, N43KH crashed in Kentucky after an engine failure on approach. The pilot was killed in the crash. The FAA website lists the engine as an IO540, however the NTSB said it had an automotive type engine in it.

  • oh.. and I have one of the winglets. it was about 500 ft from the crash site

  • im friends with the hotel owner's son.... I saw the wreck after it happened before the FAA came and took all the pieces. I remember seeing the centrifugal supercharger charred by the hotel... saw the avionics equipment.. melted, as the crash report says. They took the engine before I saw it however. I looked under the tarp, saw the cockpit with melted toolset, what looked like a parachute, and unburned pair of fruit of the loom underwear.. my friends mom said she heard him screaming.. sad =[

  • It was Chevrolet Corvette powered. There are a couple of videos on Youtube of this guy testing the new engine in his plane. RIP dude...

  • so sorry to hear about this pilot after looking at the aircraft i say it looked pretty nice home built piece .

  • Sad to hear they died. A Glassair is pretty much an engine with winds. You loose the engine, you might as well be mounted on a brick. Those winglets did look sexy as hell though.

  • Damn, not "enough altitude"

  • RIP - 2 heaven.
