Edelmann, Frantz, perhaps. Hotter didn't like the role.

But Bockelmann? And Schorr??? Not at all. Nissen sings beautifully, but so does Schorr, who in my opinion interpretes the text better.

  • Yes, he was a truly great singer. But I would not say that he "eclipses" his contemporaries. That era was great just because each singer was incomparable in his own way.

  • He simply eclipses Schoor,Bockelmann,Ferdinand Frantz,Josef Hermann,Hotter,Edelmann and the lot with sheer vocal beauty, nobility, authority and musicality.

Nissen,a true artist who avoided the media and the hyper teutonic fuss of the 3r Reich and gave us afterall some scarce documentation of his artistry! By the way, today he would have turned 116!

    Gratulieren Lieber Meistersänger!

  • Wonderful. Thank you.
