@beautifulsarah100 LOL. The Romanians would have won this WC if only they had the keen insight from sparklecutiedumbass.. What a shame.
-
@sparklecutie1246 Too bad you probably weren't born when this WC took place or you could have gone over to Romania and given her some pointers.
-
@glibster It's amazing she performed a DTY! In 1989!

filips vault sucked

gosh this is how gymnastics ought to be. watching this and then comparing it to now makes me cry. everyone here seems to have the amazing power/elegance package so much more than now. it all looks so clean too.
luikin is nice, but she looks so weak/awkward to me. johnson has NO grace whatsoever.
these soviets, romanians and chinese here are AMAZING.

Li Yan's Tkachev was beautiful, she caught the bar with full stretch.
-
Natalia Bobrova used Baitova's music at the 1993 worlds.
-
Svetlana Baitova: the best lead-off gymnast ever? I mean, really. She was talented enough to be more than just a "team gymnast." Just goes to show the depth of the Soviet team in 1988/89 I guess.
-
You're right - I never noticed that - for some reason. Victoria seemed a little stockier, but when I saw Baitova walk up the steps here, my first thought was, What is Karpenko doing here?
In my opinion, Chen Cuiting is one of the most underrated gymnasts of this era. She was really good on floor exercise and vault - events on which the Chinese were not so great (emphasis on the "were" - they're great on both of these events now). She had difficult skills in all of her routines and performed them beautifully. Perhaps we can be the first two members of the Chen Cuiting fan club!

Agreed! Pavlova is far more elegant than both Liukina and Cheng.
