@bartwrench No her mother was all for the lobotomy.Their father & mother was worried that since she did not believe the same way as the family & they were fearful that her way of thinking might ruin the chance of JFK winning the senate & Presidency & would damage the family’s reputation. They had to shut her up so they forced her to have a lobotomy. She had mental retardation for the rest of her life. Politics was more important to her parents then their own daughter.

I think both Joe and Rose used each other for money and status to a certain extent. she stayed with him because she got all that she wanted, money, fashion, high status. and Joe got a woman lik Rose to present to the public as his wife, only to the public. but i can't say if they ever had or never had love between them for sure. No wonder the bad example of a father led JFK in trouble during his presidency.

@rs216016 they had all been good swimmers. in fact, Robert F. Kennedy was with his son david (5th child) on a sailing boat when he fell into the water, the night he was shot, June 5th. RFK jumped immediately and saved his son by going deep underwater. His son, David was only around 13 years of age and was not a good swimmer. Ted had been lying about the incident to cover up as they usually do.

@Whiterhin018 She's not the one who had the lobotomy. This is Rose Elizabeth. her daughter Rose Mary is the one who had it. And she couldn't speak very well and she was permanently incapacitated.

Rose didn't have a lobotomy! Her daughter, Rosemary, did. Joe Kennedy Sr. had it done without Rose's permission.

JFK's father was NOT the captain of the baseball team. In point of fact, he stole the ball that another player had hit, and simply refused to return it to the rightful player. I love everything about JFK and JBK, but the father was a complete crook. That is why Edward Kennedy cheated on his Spanish exam and was thrown out of college, NOT to mention the murder of Mary Jo in 1969.
