I only ever saw this once 30+ years ago, and while at first I was sure I had never seen it at all, it sort of all came back to me as I watched it. Isn't that odd for only seeing it once and then it gets mentally tucked away?

Haven't seen this in ages--could have sworn this came on the original Electric Company, but I take Sesame Workshop's word for it. The man's "playing" each letter like an instrument is a novel way of showing that letters stand for sounds...though I always felt sorry for the S that sagged on the floor, and a little afraid of that Z chasing the man off like a stinging insect!

I don't remember ever seeing this cartoon on Sesame Street. It is interesting, though, how it teaches the sounds represented by some letters.

If you listen closely at the beginning, just before the music begins, you can hear a director or someone give a count of three.
I caught that by accident when I heard this with the volume up.
