One of my all-time favorite songs from the Band's fourth studio album, Cahoots; a testament to the power of Richard Manuel and the awesomeness of Van the Man.

In This Wheel's On Fire, the story was that Van and Richard were throwing this around after a drinking session and 4% was the difference in alcohol level between Johnnie Walker Red and Black.

i'd say all 3. they're in L.A. doing shows or some business and go up into griffith park, get drunk, and maybe they play cards or maybe just use it as a metaphor. it's lose and meant to be i'd say. like a rmr blues.

The title is based partly on the difference between Johnny Red and Johnny Black. Johnny Red, I think, has 4% more alcohol
