During the Second Sino-Japanese War, in 1940, Lieutenant Kurokawa returns home as a honoured and decorated soldier but deprived of his arms and legs lost in the battle in mainland China.

the war was aggressive war, and they all shoud die at the war. no pity at this movie at all.

[spoilers] Her husband doesn't deserve her service since he used to beat her. The sex scenes were bold but quite beautiful in a sense that a woman is willing to go to great lengths to please someone she cares for. These days women will walk out on you just for leaving the toilet seat up (I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean). A disabled man, if he's a good person, should be allowed to be sexually pleasured. It shouldn't be ugly like the way society sees it. It's as normal as breathing.

I read in an interview with Koji Wakamatsu that this was filmed in and around Nagaoka inn Niigata prefecture, Chubu region. Would anyone know where exactly the scenes of the homes and fileds were? I love old Japan like this and am going this fall. I have already been to traditonal places such as Takayama and Kanazawa. Thanks!
