Pt 2-3

"Der Umkehrende" aus "Geistliche Gedichte"

Was ich wollte, liegt zerschlagen,
Herr, ich lasse ja das Klagen,
Und das Herz ist still.
Nun aber gib auch Kraft, zu tragen,
Was ich nicht will!

"The convert" from "Sacred poems"

What I wanted lies in ruins:
Lord, I am lamenting no more
And my heart is quiet.
But now give me strength, too,
To bear what I do not want!

"Ergebung" (Resignation)

  • This music and its composer are unknown to me and mysteries. Having looked him up they are only slightly less mysterious. I have no doubt that this is largely a comment on my own shoddy education. But I'll keep trying.

I thought I recognised the singer! And I certainly recognised Karen's meticulous and highly enjoyable artistry.
