  • Gradevole e suadente composizione di Fauré, in cui è più accentuato lo stile naif, rispetto all'impronta fauve e liberty, delle sue opere pianistiche. In questa è meno crepuscolare e più idilliaca, soave, ma con una punta vezzosa, tipicamente francese, specialmente alla prima variazione, con l'introitus orchestrale. Ravel ne raccoglierà la lezione e anche una parte dell'eredità artistica. Meravigliosa e più leggera la Fantasia op. 111, ancora per pianoforte e orchestra.

  • This was the first recording I heard of the piece WAY back in the '70s, and I it all comes back to me why I liked it. The tempo transition around 3:00 is elegant (I agree with giving the cello line to a soloist), and Johannesen's elegant shaping is evident everywhere. I wish more of his performances were available in cleaned-up audio, since the man capably avoided any manner of excess and clearly understood French style.
