Ohio University - Trashed Labor - Local 1699

Located in the town of Athen's, Ohio University has received much criticism from students and faculty regarding the recent 35 facilities maintenance positions that were affected. The University has said some of these jobs were cut due to "budget constraints" and in an email to students stated, "[only] five to eight bargaining employees will be without a permanent position as a result of a budget reduction and realignment." However the effects of the job cuts and bumping process have not only hurt many Union employees, but the students right to a clean and serviced campus. This is the story of Local 1699.

The unions took down the whole state. I thought the union was good for the school when they first started and workers got 90 cents and hour. I doubt it is like that now.

I work for Boyd Dining Hall and am a current senior at OU. I cannot say how extrememly fundamental our maintenance and custodial staff are to the operation of the dining hall. I'm not sure if they are involved in this union, but I really hope this shows people how important the facilities and management staff are to this campus. Plus, the custodians who I work with are awesome people; always willing to help and great to talk to - they really care about their job and people they work with.

This is the way it is going down there. I work there too. A union person was replaced with a management worker, doing the same job.

I very impressed with this video. It shows exactly what the administrators are doing to the union worker, the students and to the campus.

a wonderful documentary which displays what is really occurring at the university and what is really happening to the union workers. I hope that this video gets viewed many more times so that more people help with the fight against the layoffs so we can keep Ohio University looking great and how it use to be during its prime

Also it will please the students, the parents of students, teachers, faculty, and last but not least the union workers to know that their University will be clean, safe and wonderful so all can enjoy for the present and future.
