Youth Act is a Citizenship Foundation project which supports groups of young people who want to achieve political or social change in their community.
Through training, participants develop skills of advocacy, negotiation, influencing decision-makers, using the media, teamwork, communication and resolving conflict. Youth Act's pioneering youth-adult partnership model for local political engagement brings adult supporters (e.g. school staff, youth and community workers, police officers and Connexions PAs) into a longer-term supporting role, enabling the groups to be effective and
sustainable. Youth Act groups have chosen to campaign about a wide variety of issues including: knife and gun crime, closure of a local hospital, mobile phone theft, community cohesion, teenage pregnancy, bullying, improving their housing estates, poor relations with the police, safety, sexual crimes and lack of youth provision.
