I recommend getting any bird from a certified breeder - pet shops are nasty places for pets. I was lucky to adopt my cockatiel from the RSPCA, he is hand raised and loves singing!
Always check your local shelter, you will be amazed at the wonderful and intelligent pets they have.

you don't pick, your pet you pet picks you .
you'll find most of the time when you have been picked that they think about you none stop and the every sec you leave the room they are in the cry out ( don't leave me here alone) ,my mum got this pet bird that fell in love with me from the sec she got home with it ,now the bird will not give me a moment to do anything away from it ( and i am talking about my cockatiel ) not gf

I know all about training a bird, too!
I got one 4 years ago at 15 1/2 years.
Sam was so scared of me at first.
I stick trained him. On Thanksgiving Day 2005, he stepped off the stick, onto my hand!!
did you hand rare your bird get it from a breeder or from a petshop just wondering
