  • Why the hell did you video that? It just isnt the tunnel used to imgine ghost trains and black figures in as a child. I vote to remove the lights and unfill the man sized holes in the walls. Trust me it was way more exciting then. Now its just cold, smelly and boring.

  • @YoungNicola i can remember when it was like that too. it was much more exciting then

  • @al323f I vote have the trains back. That would be even better.

  • if you come out towards thurgoland then turn left and theirs another tunnel ... without lights , its sick :)

  • In response to jtv84 comments ,I can tell you the tunnel was a double bore .I know i worked on that line for 5 years.

  • This brings back memories to me,worked on the msw line and when it closed in 1981 my mate and i stripped all the electrification equipment out of this tunnel.

I remamber it was during winter and it was so cold and damp it took us about a week and i was so glad when we had finished.

  • @JTV84 Do you know i think i made up in my head the blocked tunnel to be being longer, or somebody was telling me porkies it makes sence for it to be the same length. i honestley belived it was longer. lol check on wiki

  • @al323f well i went down last night and both ends of the other tunnel are level with both ends of this tunnel so i don't know how you work out that it's longer. at each end there is a big buttress of rock between the two portals which hides the other tunnel from view unless you're looking for it. one of the bars on the fence is missing so you could get in that end. the other end has been infilled but they've left a two foot gap at the top so you can easily get in there.

  • @JTV84 it depends which end you are at. they both start at the same point but the other is much longer and may not be obvious at the exit end of the shorter tunnel. you cant enter the long tunnel anymore, but you can climb up the blocked enterance wall and look through the bars at the top. Saying that i havnt been there for a while. so it could be over grown.

  • @al323f what do you mean? i heard the tunnel was a twin bore but when we went down there was only one and no sign of another one ever having been there. the cutting is only wide enough for one tunnel.

  • Thurgoland tunnel!!
