My Mom, Dad, Uncle, Cousin and I take a trip from Rolla, Mo, to Washington D. C. and New York City. What an adventure before interstate highways. I wish I knew more about how they planned it, where we stayed, how long it took and all the other amazing details.

  • Today it probably only takes two days to go go from Rolla to Washiington, DC

Before interstates the trip probably took an extra day. The route was probably 66 to St. Louis, US 40 (the National Road) from St. Louis to Frederick, MD and then US 240 (which is now I-270) to Washington, DC. I saw where you made a stop at the State Capitol in Indianapolis, IN and that you probably stayed at a mom and pop motel outside of Washington.

  • I am guess you are correct about our time and route of travel, but I was only ten years old and don't remember any details. Thanks for posting the comment. I wish some of the other travelers on this trip; mom, dad, uncle Floyd, Cousin Rosemary were still alive to confirm and comment. Salud, Tom
