Whomever said it was "more sinister" is wrong. It's not. I don't know what you're complaining about though. It may not be "one of the best movies ever made" but it's certainly "no crime against movies."

The fact that you did not like it shows you have good tast in movies. You will be able to watch the original series and movies and judge for your self what episodes and movies are good.

"Star Trek had to change or be gone forever"? Like Sherlock Holms, Zorro, Flash Gordon and Buck Rodgers? All good things have an end. But it would not die as long as teachers keep encouraging us to appreciate our culture. Trek will continue to live through its' true fans. Fans like James Crawly who make new adventures based on the original show. PS. History shows that 90% of the time when some thing is made hip and main stream what made it great is lost forever.

my mom's been talking about seeing this movie since it came out to theatres. finally rented it yesterday and she loved it. i didn't like it though. i literally know nothing about star trek. i've never watched any of the old shows or movies in my life.

The way I see it, Star Trek had to change or be gone forever and have no more Star Trek. Trek updated itself for more mainstream audiences, something the previous films were never really capable of. But it's still Trek to me, it didn't change too wildly.

This movie rocks. I recommend you buy the DVD instead of using itunes. This is the top download right now so it will be slow. Took me 2 days to download the HD version.

Up dated and more sinister? Does that sound like Star Trek to you? Star Trek is about optimism not dark, drerry evil, cliche people running around telling dirty jokes and breaking rules. How can you love the classics and like this crime agenst movies?

seen all the films you mentioned, iam older than you,lol, the reason why i think this is a great movie is that its updated more sinister, but still keeps the funny parts too!!!! ps solent green is a great film, and robbie the robot rocks!!!!

For 45 you lived a verry shelterd life if this is one of the best movies you ever saw. This movie is terrable. You want great movies? Start with Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still (The original BW), Logan's Run, Solent Green, and if you like ganster films White Heat. You can't know wat good movies are till you first watched the great classics. (Sorry for any spelling erors my key boad stiks, and I can't aford a new one yet.)
