Bought this album in SF September 1969 on way home from Saigon. Taj was one of the best things about those years. Saw him/met him in Vancouver in 1970 when he was traveling with his 'large band'. Another case of an artist's fame not nearly approaching/reflecting his true greatness.

Jesse Ed Davis cooks nice here. The whole album is a classic.

Jesse Ed was so diverse. I think that's why he's at the top on my list of guitarist. From Conway Twitty, Gary Lewis and The Playboys; the Beatles; John Lee Hooker; Albert and BB King both, Harry Nilsson, the list goes on!

They did, and it's a beautiful version at that. It's very different than Taj's version. Theirs is more pop ballad where his seems more soulful. Both are beautiful versions, but comparing them with one another seems almost impossible because they really are such different takes on the song.

I first heard this album, Take A Giant Step, and this song in 1972 when I was a freshman in college. My room mate, I think Peter Gardner, introduced me to the blues. I only knew pop and rock before that time. Peter had a black Fender Les Paul guitar. He seemed a little strange to me but a will always be grateful to him for introducing me to this wonderful music which I love to this day.

Shows Taj's heart, to take this pop hit, from 1966, by the Monkees, written by Gerry Goffin and Carol King and see the soul of the song. I saw Taj at The Joyous Lake in Woodstock, NY. The man is walkin' music. Both records in this double album are great! De ol folks at home is classic. What a cool funky banjo player he is. How tasty is Jesse Ed's playing, greatly under rated picker. sounds like that old original Uni-Vibe.
