The only time Van Vliet attempted to be commercial in any sense, of the word was in the mid-Seventies when he was forced to by his record company. Do you seriously believe there was any other time when he was trying to push product? If so, you know nothing about the subject matter. And I was about 30 feet away from the man around '72-'73 when he was playing some damn good (albeit free) jazz on soprano sax at the U of Penn.

Beefheart was nuts! He held his hippy musicians hostage, starved them, brainwashed them, beat the crap out of them, made them jam 14 hours straight and they slept on the floor. This was during the T.M.R. album. He was kind of a frightening mad genius.

Okay, fair enough. But I suggest you spend your time on a video that makes you happy. Not everyone can like everything, especially Captain Beefheart. No point in self-inducing pointless rage to ruin everyone's good time. You've been commenting on this video for over a week; just get over it.

this video helps prove that beefheart was a arrogant and eccentric twit. Trult disgusting how he makes his band mates hold up his 4 year old paintings in a shameless effort to promote and sell his artwork, which would not have any real benefits to his band members. Even some of the musicians that tried to work with beefhead, admit it was a total controlling dickhead.

Proving my case. Beefheart insinuates he despised mainstream music and popularity but then fabricates LIES in an attempt to gain more fans/ popularity. Ive never even seen this dude play a instrument with any type of skill or finesse. He cant even play a harmonica without hitting numerous off key notes.

You shouldn't take everything the Captain says seriously. He said he dropped out of school after kindergarten, when it's well documented that he went to high school. A seven octave range is INSANE; a full-sized piano only stretches 3 notes above seven octaves. It's generally thought that he instead had 4-4.5 octaves (I think it's really a three-octave-range,which is still pretty impressive). In "Dachau Blues" he growls a low C2 and in "White Jam" he hits a high C5 in a falsetto.

Listen to bonehead beefheart play that out of tune harmonica at the end...hes such a musical prodigy. LOL. ...it takes alot of talent to continually play bad - out of key notes.

So you are unable to show me any live video where bonehead beefheart displays his self proclaimed 7 octave singing range ? Thats what I thought.

People sure won't remember what you've got to say, probably like in about 2 days. The fact is that people will be talking about the Captain 200 years from now. Glad you provided us with all of your knowledge. We would have never known how stupid you really are
